Calgary Flames general manager Darryl Sutter rolls out the welcome mat for new Flame Todd Bertuzzi yesterday:
Darryl Sutter scoffs at the notion that Todd Bertuzzi is not welcome in Calgary. One isolated incident -- his sucker-punch of Steve Moore in March, 2004 -- should not forever brand Bertuzzi a bad boy.
"That's a long time ago," the Flames general manager said Monday after signing the burly winger to a one-year deal worth US$1.95-million. "I had a traffic ticket three years ago. I hope there's three or four fans who can forget that I went through a red light."
I am hoping he didn't mean he ran a red light and broke somebody's neck. Is the Calgary hockey media covering for the boss on something?

Fuck, it's been four years since Sutter went to the Finals. On the man's own standard, we should all forget about it.
Fine with me.

Give it a rest Colby. There is nothing proven shown it wasn't the pricks who piled on afterwards that broke his neck. If Moore hadn't tried to crack open Marcus Naslunds skull the week earlier he would be fine now.

Whether Bertuzzi actually broke the man's neck is beside the point... it was clear that he was trying to hurt the man. It's not true, however, that Moore was attempting to hurt Naslund.

Sutter ran a red light? Ooh, big man. In his traffic accident, Craig MacTavish killed a guy. Oilers win again!

Well, Sutter's a good ol Alberta boy. Maybe it was just an aboriginal protester, eh Colby?

It's not true that Moore was attempting to hurt Naslund? Was there some divine ruling on this subject?

I thought that was the consensus, I never even realized there was argument on the point. Of course, I'm only a casual hockey fan and I live in Colorado...

Well, how would you demonstrate such a thing--would asking (the other) Moore whether he intended to hurt Naslund by forcing his elbow down his earhole settle it to anyone's satisfaction? The video doesn't prove that it was a technically dirty hit, and Naslund had his head down, but if Moore wasn't trying to hurt Naslund he made a hell of a mess of it.

You're right, of course. Just because Moore/the Avs said it was an accident didn't mean that it was.

Look at the money Finger got. The deal makes sense.
And correction to another comment, MacTavish killed a young woman. "Oilers win again!" That's twisted.

I actually agree the deal makes sense, but can we not point to the Jeff Finger contract as any sort of a benchmark? Being smarter than the Leafs front office doesn't mean you're making "sense", it just lets us open the debate about whether we should let you walk down the street without a helmet.

Give it a rest, Canuck fanboy.
